WAYS TO HELP

BECOME A MEMBER – Dues are $20 a year for individuals or $30 for a family membership. Members have access to BRAWA informational programs, discounts on programs for kids, and a 25% BRAWA Shop discount.

VOLUNTEER – The shelter needs volunteers to help keep our animals mentally healthy and happy. Volunteering is a great way to help animals, make new friends, and get a bit of exercise! Volunteer orientation is held on the third Saturday of every month at 10 am.

SHORT TERM FOSTER HOMES – Short-term Foster Homes needed for Rescue Dogs/Pups that already have a commitment for transport!
A short-term foster home for dogs is approximately 1 week placement. Although, fostering dogs for 3-4 days or even overnight is still considered being a short-term foster home! Dogs need a place to stay while waiting for transport and even those few days will give you an opportunity to enjoy the time you get to spend with them and know you are part of the course of saving their life. Short-term fostering is the best way to try fostering dogs to see if you like fostering.
Short-term fostering gives you the opportunity to quickly determine if you like fostering puppies or seniors, big dogs or little dogs, etc,.
You have much more flexibility doing short-term fostering. It is much easier to take breaks from fostering if you short-term foster.
You are a valuable resource to us by short-term fostering rescue dogs as it frees up a kennel space for another animal waiting to come in.

ADOPT – If you are considering adding a pet to your family, visit us first. BRAWA has a wide selection of dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens. If you don’t find what you want, we keep a ‘Pets Wanted Book’. We will take a description of the type of pet you want and will contact you when we get a dog or cat that fits your description. Adoption fees include vet services that will get your pet off to a healthy start.

SHOP TAILS R US – All the profits from the retail store located in the shelter lobby go directly to support our operations. TAILS R US has a great supply of quality items for your dog or cat as well as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and more.

SPREAD THE WORD – Talk to your friends and family about visiting the shelter first if they are considering adding a pet to their family, and help us spread the word about the importance of spaying or neutering dogs and cats.

Without donations we could not provide the care needed by the 5000 animals that come to us each year.  Many people donate in memory of a family member, friend, or pet.  Your  tax-deductible* donation is crucial to our success.  Please help us help them!

*BRAWA is a qualified charity for deduction on state and federal tax returns.  The extent to which it and other charitable donations result in income tax savings depends on your individual tax situation.

Donate Supplies – The shelter always needs the following items:  Bleach, paper towels, laundry detergent, Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, canned pop-top dog and cat food , milk bones, dog treats, copy paper, blankets and towels.


Planned Giving –  Consider  leaving a living legacy for the homeless animals in your will or other estate plan.  BRAWA now has an endowment  fund in place to ensure the future of BRAWA and it’s work in good as well as tough times.  Please see our Planned giving brochure for more information on making BRAWA a part of your estate plan.

Kroger Community Rewards

 – It is time to re-enroll in the Kroger Community Rewards program! It only takes a few minutes to complete and then you will be ready to go and earn rewards for Barren River Animal Welfare Association while doing your normal Kroger shopping! All you need to do is:
1. Go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and Sign In.
2. Click on “Re- Enroll Now” on the Kroger Community Rewards page.
3. On the Account Summary page click the “Re-Enroll” button located under the Community Rewards section.
4. Type in the first 3 letters of our organization in the search box. Select “Barren River Animal Welfare Association”
5. Use your Kroger Plus Card when you shop to earn rewards for Barren River Animal Welfare Association (while still earning rewards for yourself).
